“Theres a potty over here, there’s a potty over there”. Teaching a puppy not to go potty inside the home or on the carpet or flooring is the first thing to teach your happy little fur ball. Why is it so hard to potty train your puppy? “What we have here is failure to communicate.” In the pack den, if the pup starts to go to the bathroom inside the den, the mother will pick the puppy up and take her outside rapidly and consistently. The action of being picked up quickly by the mother dog is probably startling enough, then to be put outside the den must be confusing as all of it. Then after a few weeks it's done. The puppy learns to potty outside of the den. How? By being corrected in the act ( being snatched up by the scruff of the neck) then guided to where they should be going. Correction, then guidance , that’s how dogs learn, that’s how dog teach that’s how dogs train. So teaching your puppy bot to have accidents in your home requires corrective action, guidance, praise and consistency. Getting upset and shoving your puppy’s face in the mess only confuses her. Think about it! What would you do if a foreign speaking person randomly grabbed you, put you face in the mud, yelling at you and threw you outside! You might be a little confused. So the concept of puppy potty training is to correct with good timing, guidance to the area you choose, and praise her for being in the right place. All that combined with consistency will teach your dog potty training. Now go be a good teacher and pack leader....
