A few things to consider when you are working with your dog here in our great state of Texas. Especially here in The Woodlands area. During the summer, we Houston folks deal with heat AND Humidity. Yes I know you know. Look don’t walk your dog in the middle of the day. In the morning is way better. Heres a tip for walking your dog on concrete or asphalt. Remember your dog doesn’t have flip flops or boots.  The ground is going to be hot. Before you walk your dog, place the back of your hand on the ground you plan on walking. If you can take the heat there and hold your hand there , so can your dog walk there. But if it’s too hot for you, then it’s too hot for your dog. Bring water, a collapsible dog water bowl, poop bag, a towel, ( for quick shade ), and maybe a walking stick. The walking stick  can help fend off loose dogs with bad intentions. Also invest in a 20 to 30 foot dog lunge leash. These are great in areas that are wide open and safe, so your dog can learn to stay within 20 to 30 feet of you while running around simi off leash. but if you really want off leash control while walking your dog, consider taking lessons from a qualified dog trainer who offers this program as I do. You will be amazed how free your dog will walk with you, and how much you will be able to trust her off leash.
